EMEP laboratory intercomparison
EMEP has arranged laboratory intercomparisons on an almost annual basis since 1977, and currently 40 rounds have been arranged. All EMEP laboratories are obligated to participate, and the comparison is also open to other laboratories in relevant programmes. Since round 29, results are published here and certificates are mailed to the participationg laboratories. Earlier results are published in data reports. EMEP intercomparison results are used to calculate QA measures. EMEP42The next round of samples will be sent out in week 41, October 7-11. The deadline for submitting results this year is Wednesday December 18. |

QA measure from laboratory intercomparisons
QA measure is a general term for different procedures involved in the quality assurance (QA) of the measurements. QA measures can be an on-site or off-site intercomparison, round-robin or an on-site audit.
This section describes the QA measures from the annual laboratory intercomparison co-ordinated by EMEP/CCC (inorganics and heavy metals), and the 2015 ILC for OC/EC. All other QA measures used in ebas are listed on the ebas-submit.nilu.no website.
The QA measure results should be included in the nasa/ames files when submitting data. Details on what to include are given in the files in the table below and in their respective templates.
Results for inorganics in precipitation, inorganics in air and heavy metals
For QA bias the relative bias is used; for QA variability relative standard deviation. Calculations based on all submitted results are given below. For background information on the statistical procedure please look here.
One should preferably chose the results from when the lab analysed the lab intercomparison samples closest in time to the regular measurements. This means that for i.e. 2023 inorganic data data, both EMEP40 (sent out September 2022) and EMEP41 (sent out September 2023) are relevant.
Since pH is a logarithmic scale, QA variability and QA bias are provided, but not QA outcome (pass/no pass).
